Khatija Rahman is a musician and social worker who started her philanthropic journey by volunteering at Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai, and also at the Little Flower School for the blind. She is constantly engaged with projects enhancing women’s empowerment, and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs. A graduate of commerce from Stella Maris and a Youth Red Cross volunteer, Khatija Rahman has also finished her Bachelors and Masters in Islamic Studies from B.S. A Crescent University.
She is a musician who has had her singing debut in the movie ‘Enthiran’ and has sung the title track in all three languages. She is training in Hindustani music, Western vocals. Her recent accomplishment in the music field is a collaboration with the renowned band U2 on a song called Ahimsa which gained worldwide recognition.
She had done her internship with a renowned music distribution company CD Baby to help discover and support new artists. Currently, the Director and Trustee of The A R Rahman Foundation where her work is aligned closely with capacity building, women’s empowerment and music research projects.
She uses her music abilities to support the various causes she believes in. She collaborated with the Grammy award winning musician Rickey Kej and came out with a single “Ilteja” which is a plea for a cleaner environment. Her recent music single “Farishton” had an animated music video which spoke about women’s empowerment, unity in diversity and spread the message of empathy, and gained positive response and recognition among the media and festivals.
Khatija when asked on her vision on Women Empowerment and the mainstream media. “I don’t have a vision as such but I really hope women or any genders aren’t judged for their physical appearance and I hope that nobody has to try to fit in to accommodate themselves in mainstream society. My message is for everyone to embrace & accept themselves & discover their inner voice.”
Less networking could pose a serious challenge. I believe it’s important to stay updated & connect with likeminded people & also expecting quick results is also a mindset which has to check” says this young star when asked on the biggest challenges according to what is faced by upcoming talents.
